Sunzahra Liburd Banks
ATA Hitting Partner / Assistant Coach
Sunzahra Liburd Banks was born in Canada in 2001 and relocated to Anguilla at the tender age of two. During the early years of the Anguilla Tennis Academy (ATA) she developed an interest in tennis and enrolled in its Summer programs.
Sunzahra’s passion for learning and exploring allowed her to pursue other interests and took a break from tennis for several years. She returned in 2017 in her late teenage years for the ATA’s 22nd annual Summer Camp and began training full-time in the ATA’s After School Program in hopes of attaining a tennis athletic scholarship to further her education in the USA.
Sunzahra is currently training in the ATA’s High-Performance Program and assists the younger players in the After School Program as a way of giving back for the many opportunities afforded to her through the sport of tennis. All her efforts are geared towards achieving a tennis scholarship to attend Savannah State University, Georgia in the Fall of 2021 where she plans to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Communications.
Sunzahra has a determination to succeed and works hard both on and off the court. While she loves playing tennis, she also enjoys teaching the younger participants the fundamentals and basics of the game and is a lover of cultural foods. Helping the younger children to grow and develop their talents inspires her to work harder each and every day.
Sunzahra’s goal is to use tennis as the vehicle to achieve her tertiary education and personal aspirations in life. She is a great ambassador for the ATA and lives her life by a simple but profound quote by Roy T. Bennett, “ Don’t be pushed around by the fears in your mind. Be led by the dreams in your heart.”
